Bali is one of Indonesian islands located in the easternmost end of the Lesser Java Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country's 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island.

With a population recorded as 3,891,000 in 2010, the island is home to most of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. In the 2000 census about 92.29% of Bali's population adhered to Balinese Hinduism while most of the remainder follow Islam. It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. Bali, despite being a tourist haven for decades, has seen a surge in tourist numbers in recent years.

One day in Bali, there was a Portuguese photographer who was really interested in Bali came and took photographs so enthusiastically that he forgot the time which had been twilight.

Diaz: Kuta Beach is so astonishing.

Then, a boy came. He always visited that place to see the sunset. He came alone, stood, and watched the sun slowly set to the horizon. He was just silent, maybe thought about something.

Then, he saw the photographer. He met the photographer.

Made: Nice view, sir?

Diaz: Very nice! (still taking pictures)

Made: As always. (taking a wallet from his pocket) Is this yours, sir?

Diaz: Hey, that is my wallet! (taking the wallet from Made) Where did you find it?

Made: I found it in that toilet, sir. I thought this is yours because the photo inside there just exactly the same as your face.

Diaz: Wow! Thank you very much! You’ve saved my day! I wonder what will happen if my wallet really lost. By the way, take this, this is for the reward. (giving US$ 50)

Diaz: Why? Just take it. Here!

Made: Okay then, thank you very much, sir. (taking the money)

Diaz: I am the one who should say thanks! Thank you very much for you, kid.

Made: Don’t mention it, sir.

Diaz: By the way, may I know your name?

Diaz: Exactly. And now I’m here to do my job, as always, hunting beautiful views to publish. But unfortunately, a friend of mine who supposed to guide me is ill now. So now, I’m searching for a new guide. Maybe you can help me? Maybe you have some friends that can be my guide?

Made: Maybe I can be your guide, sir?

Part 2: The Journey

Tomorrow morning, before the sunrise, at Sanur Beach.

Made: You can enjoy a beautiful sunrise from here, sir. Sanur Beach has a famous sunrise.

Diaz: I have heard that in my country but I haven’t seen it directly.

Made: Once, there was a painter who fell in love with this beach. His name was Le Mayeur. And there is a museum here which keeps his paintings: Le Mayeur Museum.

Diaz: Sounds interesting. I would like to go there after the sunrise.

Made: The museum is near from here, sir. I will take you there after this. The museum is usually opened at 8 a.m.

Then, after 8 a.m., they both went to Le Mayeur Museum.

Diaz: I love these paintings. These give me some inspiration.

Made: There are 88 paintings in this museum which was made between 1921 until 1957. Uniquely, some of those paintings use not only canvas as the media, but also hardboards, triplex, papers, even sacks!

Diaz: Hmmm…, I think he’s the genius one. So, what will be our next journey after this?

Made: The Big Mountain or we usually call it Gunung Agung.

At the afternoon, Diaz and Made arrived in Gunung Agung.

Diaz: What a beautiful mountain! (taking photos)

Made: This mountain is a volcanic mountain, sir, and it is still active until now.

Diaz: But the activity gives a wonderful panorama which is very precious to enjoy! (still taking photos)

Meanwhile in the same day, start from the morning, Elga and Mahmood went to Taman Nasional Bali Barat.

Elga: This garden combines land ecosystem and sea ecosystem. As you can see, you can find mangrove forests, meadows, beaches, corals ecosystem, and so on in this place.

Mahmood: I see.

Elga: This garden is very huge! You will get very great information about nature in Bali. And there are some little islands also here which you can visit one by one and enjoy its greatness. One of them is Menjangan Island. This 6.000 ha island is not only a habitat for menjangan, or deer in English, but also you can dive in the shore which surrounds it to enjoy its beautiful corals and very varied kind of fish.

Mahmood: Let’s we go there then. I’m really excited.

Then in the afternoon, they went to Bajra Shandi Monument, where Mahmood can learn the whole history of Bali, from pre-historic until era of independence.

Elga: By this monument, you will get a complete view about historical journey of Balinese from the pre-historic era until modern era. There are 33 dioramas surround this monument; each of diorama contains statues complete with its nature settings. And for explaining the information, there are labels consist of three languages: Old Javanese, Indonesian, and English.

Mahmood: Cool! Then I can write it easily.

Elga: That’s right! And there are stairs to reach to top of the monument which shaped like a bell. You can see the beautiful of Denpasar city from that high, about 45 meters, and if the time is right, we can also see the sunset.

Mahmood: Wow! I love this place. I want to see the sunset.

They saw the sunset together at Bajra Shandi Monument. And at night, they went to Batu Bulan village to watch Kecak Dance together.

Part 3: Farewell

And then came the day when Siergio Diaz and Mahmood Haddad must come back to their own country. This was the end of their journey, their last day, but they snatched themselves to take the tour in Bali once again because they have felt in love with the island.

Made accompanied Diaz to go to Pura Taman Ayun which located at Mengwi Village.

Diaz: This place is so beautiful, especially the architecture, which is from far this place looks like floating on the water.

Made: Just like the name, sir. Taman Ayun in Balinese means The Beautiful Garden.

Diaz: Thank you very much for your guidance, Made. I wonder if there were no you. I’ve taken so many astonishing pictures in my camera and now I must come back to my country because my visa has been over and the flight is just a couple of minutes from now.

Made: You’re welcome, sir.

If Made accompanied Diaz to go to Pura Taman Ayun to seek some beautiful views, Elga accompanied Mahmood to Subak Sagulan Museum where Mahmood can add some useful materials to his write.

Mahmood: I’m glad there is a library here which contains complete collection about agricultures in Bali.

Elga: Of course! Because this is Subak Sagulan Museum, not just only an ordinary rice field.

Mahmood: Thank you very much Elga for helping me to finish my write. Now, I have to go back to my country. It’s nice to know you.

Elga: Nice to know you, too. Oh, I almost forget. This! (giving the novel) I’ve read it all, and I love it. I hope you will be a great and a very popular novelist one day.

Mahmood: You shouldn’t return it to me, Elga. You may take it for yourself if you want. You may have it.

Elga: Really?? Oh, thank you very much, Mahmood!

Mahmood: Would you like my signature in your brand new novel?

Elga: Of course! (giving the novel)

Mahmood: Here! (writing the signature in the first page of the novel)

Elga: Thank you very much, Mahmood.

Mahmood: You’re welcome, Elga. And I hope, we will meet again some day.

Elga: I hope so. Don’t forget to visit Bali again, okay?

Mahmood: Certainly!
